Northeast State Community College

Humanities Complex

Blountville, TN

This $14.5 million, 91,410 square foot, Humanities Complex consisted of two buildings – the Humanities Academics & Classroom Building and the Fine Arts Building.  The two buildings are connected by an enclosed bridge.

The 55,560 square foot academic building houses 17 state-of-the-art general and computer classrooms, 42 offices for faculty and department heads, conference areas, and public gathering spaces.

The featured element of the 35,850 square foot Fine Arts Building was a 500-seat theater for the performing arts. The theater almost tripled the performance space available previously at the campus’s 200-seat auditorium.  The fully operational stage and backstage areas provide a theater setting that exceeds most professional venues across the county and provides a draw to the campus for not only students and professors, but the surrounding communities as well.  The building also provided fine arts classroom and a wellness area

“This will be one of the finest performing arts centers in our region,” said Dr. Bill Locke, Northeast State President at the time of project completion. “The biggest thing the theater will do is provide a place where people from across the region can come and participate in cultural events, in a beautiful setting that is close to the center of the Tri-Cities.”
