1st Place TSBA School of the Year Award Winner – 2002 Remodeling / Renovation

Construction of this K-5 elementary school was on the site of the former Thomas C. Bower Elementary, and combined the student populations of both the Bower facility and the Blythe Avenue Elementary School. Special precautions were required to allow operations to continue without interruption at Bower Elementary, so as not to interfere with the completion of the school year. Existing classrooms were utilized until Spring Break, at which time construction of Phase I of the new classroom wings was complete and usable.

New construction created thirty-four additional classrooms, a gymnasium, and included the conversion of the existing cafeteria into a Little Theater. Introducing a leading-edge design concept, these classrooms contain nearly 1200 square feet and a wet area that features floor to ceiling built-in cabinetry with sinks in counter tops, a teacher’s storage closet, a view window, and an exit door directly outside. As well, each two classrooms in the K-2 wing share a toilet area. All classrooms contain five state-of-the-art computer workstations.
